This is my first experience with vacuum technology - building a simple sandwich with balsa end grain and carbon. Here is the R&G vacuum pump:

Here are carbon mats (90g) and the balsa end grain core:

The base I used was simple glass. On top of the last layer came a layer of tear-off fabric, then a sheet of plastic with tiny holes, then a layer of absorbent fabric.

The whole sandwich then goes into the vacuum plastic bag:

And now the big moment: switch on the pump!

The end result can be used to make some fine components:
